Classroom Management
When concerning classroom management, I believe students should be highly involved in self monitoring their behavior and in order to do so, students should be involved in the planning of classroom expectations and consequences. As a class, we will brainstorm and collaborate everyones ideas of what they expect of behavior in the classroom from both fellow students and the teacher as well. This allows students to have a sense of ownership in the classroom and their learning as well.
When a student misbehaves, I will always allow that student to self correct their behavior before instilling a consequence. Non-verbal communication, such as moving closer to the student or pausing in sentence to get the students behavior, gives the student time to realize they are on my radar and correct themselves. If the misbehavior does not correct it self, then I will move on to providing a fair consequence for this student such as a detention, referral or parent-teacher consequence. I will always follow up at the end of the class with any student who was misbehaving. I will talk to them about what they did wrong and how they think they could have made a better choice. I will have the student follow up with a worksheet that has the student write down the wrong choice they made, why they made it, and how they can make a better choice next time. That sheet is attached for you to view.

Classroom Environment
Students should be able to view their school and the classroom as a safe place to come to each morning. As a teacher, I want to create a learning environment where students know they are welcome to explore new ideas. As a role model, I will create an environment in which students are comfortable to ask questions, knowing they will not be ridiculed for simply wanting to know more. I want to build an environment where students can feel a sense of unity with their fellow classmates as well as me, the teacher. We will have a fun, exciting, and insipirational year in an environment which promotes respect from students and teacher alike.
